For fans of winter sports, nothing can match the excitement of the Winter X Games. Competitors use skis, snowboards, and snowmobiles to speed down icy slopes and launch into the sky. The events include so many gravity-defying tricks that some competitors spend just as much time in the air as they do on the snow.

对冬季运动迷来说，没什么可以比「冬季极限运动」来的刺激。参赛选手利用雪屐、雪上滑板与雪上摩托车快速滑下冰上斜坡，且将自己送上天际。极限运动比赛包含很多对抗地心引力的特技，而参赛者在天上与雪地上的时间一样多。

One exciting event is the Superpipe, which is like a half-pipe, but has much taller walls that allow snowboarders to get higher on their jumps. The athletes in the snowmobile event ─ Snocross ─ also spend a good amount of time in the air. This race involves speeds of over 95 km/h and jumps as long as 40 meters. Just watching the event gets your heart beating fast.

The X Games were started as a summer event in 1995 by ESPN, the American sports broadcaster. After a huge success, the winter games were added in 1997. Every year since then, the top winter athletes have come together to put on a great show. We should expect nothing less from the 17^th Winter X Games in January 2013.

The 2013 Winter X Games will be held from January 24th to 27th in Aspen, Colorado. The games are returning to this famous ski resort community in the mountains for the 12th year in a row. Winters here are very cold, with temperatures as low as -14^。C and tons of snow, but this is a paradise for winter sports. More than 200 winter athletes will come with the hopes of winning a gold medal.
