An exciting time for Major League Baseball’s (MLB) fans comes every July. In the mid-season break, MLB hosts a number of baseball games and activities. Among the numerous events, the All-Star Futures Game gives US players and non-American players in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) a time to go head-to-head. If you enjoy thrills and powerful hits, you shouldn’t miss the Home Run Derby as baseball’s best batsmen try to knock as many balls over the fence as they can. Finally, the main show is the MLB All-Star Game where MLB superstars showcase their great skills.

The first MLB All-Star Game took place in 1933, and since then, the National League (NL) and American League (AL) play against each other every year. Players for each team are selected by fans and managers of all the MLB teams in various ways. In 2010, Hong-Chih Kuo (郭泓志) became the first Taiwanese player to participate in a MLB All-Star Game. Because teams are made up of the best players, the All-Star game is always exciting.
史上第一场大联盟明星赛在1933年举办，此后，国家联盟（国联）与美国联盟（美联）每年都会组队厮杀。双方球队的球员们由球迷与各队总教练藉由各种管道选出。2010年，郭泓志成为史上首位入选大联盟明星赛的台湾球员。由于队伍都是由最顶尖的球员组成，大联盟明星赛总是精彩刺激。

This year’s MLB All-Star events are being held in Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets. No doubt local New Yorkers will have big expectations for the games. But not just people in the Big Apple, global fans look forward to watching the games, too. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the events and over 10 million viewers will watch the broadcasts at home.

The reason the MLB All-Star events are so popular is because international fans can not only see the hottest players from MLB, but also from MiLB as they show their best skills during the All-Star Futures Game. It’s a great opportunity for baseball fans to congregate and discuss the players’ futures. Many famous Taiwanese players have participated in the All-Star Futures Games, including Chin-Feng Chen (陈金锋) and Chien-Ming Wang (王建民). Thanks to global broadcasting, fans across the world can cheer on their favorite homegrown players and share in their glory.
