Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium in Taichung City will host the Pool B games of the World Baseball Classic’s (WBC) first round contests from March 2-5. Taiwan’s team, Chinese Taipei, will face off against squads from South Korea, Australia, and the Netherlands. The top two teams will move on to the second round in Tokyo, Japan.
台中洲际棒球场将于今年3月2日至5日举办世界棒球经典赛(简称WBC)B组赛事，台湾代表队中华台北将迎战南韩、澳洲与荷兰。分组战绩前两名的队伍将前往日本东京参与第二轮赛事。
The WBC is the highest level of international baseball competition. It begins with four groups of four teams each, totaling sixteen. The event began in 2006 and this year’s will be the tournament’s third, with the championship round being played in San Francisco, California. Teams from Japan succeeded at winning first place at both of the previous two WBC.
WBC是等级最高的国际棒球赛事。由4组4队、共16支队伍开始每届赛程。WBC于2006年首度举办，今年为第三届，而总冠军赛将在美国加州旧金山市举行。前两届赛事皆由日本国家队夺下冠军。
Taiwan earned its spot in the 2013 classic by sweeping through its qualifying round against Thailand, the Philippines, and New Zealand. Dominating with offense and defense, Taiwan outscored opponents 35-0 in three games. Having cruised through its games thus far, and with the benefit of a cheering home crowd in Taichung, expectations for Taiwan in the WBC are high.
