Start your engine and get ready for one of the world’s best auto exhibitions. The Frankfurt Motor Show hosts car makers who want to show off their latest innovative models. The event occurs every two years and generally attracts over 900,000 car lovers. Nearly 1,000 brands from 30 countries come to show off their goods and create a spectacle. The cars on display range from the practical and affordable to the exotic and experimental.

The show’s first exhibition took place in a Berlin hotel in 1897. Visitors to that show had a mere eight cars to look at. However, the show gradually became popular enough for it to turn into a regular event. The 1939 show was one of the most memorable shows because that’s when Volkswagen first displayed its famous VW Beetle. In 1951, organizers moved the exhibition to Frankfurt and decided to make it a biennial event. As automotive technology keeps improving, every show is more sensational than the last.

The Frankfurt Motor Show is a large event that occupies 12 buildings. A German giant, such as BMW, would get its own building. The 230,000 square meters that hold the show can fit 28 soccer fields. Despite the massive size of the place, the automakers attend to small details and design their displays wonderfully.

Once inside a building, a guest might notice cars actually zooming around them, since exhibitors construct tracks for test drives. After all, there is no better way to get excited about a dream car than to see it in action. There are plenty of powerful sports cars to make auto lovers drool, though more and more environmentally friendly cars are being featured every year.

The 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show takes place this September. Yet, as great as it’s going to be for hardcore motor heads, the event has more to offer than just cars. The exhibition is also a showcase for artistic design, green technology, and international business. For an exciting drive into the future, go and see the Frankfurt Motor Show.
